Is Career Training as an HVAC Technician a good option for Military Veterans?

Have you have ever thought about becoming an HVACR (heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration) technician? NETTTS can help you determine if HVACR technician career training is the move for you. HVACR technicians install, maintain, and repair heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVACR) systems. HVACR technicians work with boilers, refrigerators, central heating, air conditioning, furnaces, ventilation systems, home appliances, commercial grade equipment and more.

Through their service, U.S. veterans often acquire a number of unique skills and talents. These can help build a foundation which gives them strong skill sets in the civilian workforce. A hands-on field for skilled workers, HVACR technicians are useful year round to make sure that the heating and cooling equipment we use every day are properly running.

U.S. veterans have served and protected this country, so NETTTS wants to help our transitioning military veterans to prepare and train for a role in civilian life they will love. At our HVACR training school, you can choose either day or evening classes and receive training by instructors that come from the HVACR industry.

Why Military Veterans Should Consider Training to become an HVACR Technician

Veterans considering a future as an HVACR technician should be able to consider the following factors when making their decision:

  •        GI Bill ® Education Benefits. To help military personnel have a successful future after serving in the armed forces, the Department of Veteran Affairs offers military benefits for an education/higher learning. U.S. Veterans can apply for benefits and training with NETTTS HVAC Program through the GI Bill Education benefits (Post-9/11 GI Bill Apprenticeship Program). Contact NETTTS and speak with a VA Certified Official to find out more about how to use your military benefits.
  •         Monthly Stipends. Are you on active duty status? You may be eligible for additional monthly stipend from the VA once you land a job.
  •         Rewarding Career Training. If you are tired of hopping job to job, perhaps career training towards becoming a professional HVAC tech is for you.

Why Military Veterans Can Make Dependable HVAC Workers

HVAC is a skilled trade that can offer a solid opportunity for veterans. Many important skills and knowledge are needed in the military and can include:

  • Critical Independent Thinking-  Installing, maintaining, or repairing different problems on different brands of HVAC systems is going to take some brain power. You may need to think outside of the box. This means to troubleshoot, use investigating skills, work backwards, and perhaps even rewire a whole system. This may be a good fit for veterans who are knowledgeable about mechanics, physics, design, computerized controls and wiring.
  • Multi-limb Coordination-  The job of an HVAC technician requires you to repair or install things on a small scale, which requires finger dexterity, visualization, and far-sighted vision.
  • Working in Tight Quarters – The job of an HVAC technician may sometimes mean working in close or dark spaces, which is where many boilers, heaters and air conditioners are situated within homes and commercial buildings.
  • Discipline and Organization- The job of an HVAC technician can often be independent work. It can include supervising or responding to the needs of different clients. Having the organization to schedule and the discipline to get all work done is an important skill to have.
  • Dependability  Veterans are often trustworthy, responsible, and accountable to clients’ needs.
  • Teamwork- There can be many people involved in a project. This combination can include HVACR professionals, as well as other tradesmen and women working together.
  • Leadership- No matter what your rank was in your military career, you were probably able to lead by example.
  • Focus- Military veterans are often viewed as able to stay focused. This can translate to when working long hours on troublesome problems with HVACR equipment.
