GI Bill® Veteran’s Education Benefits

If you’re a veteran or active-duty military member, you may be eligible for education benefits through the GI Bill®. This bill helps veterans get money to pay for school or job training. At New England Tractor Trailer Training School (NETTTS), we provide career training programs at our locations across the Northeast. We offer veteran’s education benefits to qualifying students. Learn more about the veteran and active-duty benefits available through NETTTS.

What Is the GI Bill®?

The GI Bill® is an act that provides military veterans and their families with benefits to pay for college, grad school, or career training. It was signed into law by President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1944 to help World War II veterans access higher education and other benefits after the war. It has been extended multiple times to now benefit veterans of many different conflicts and even some active-duty service members.

GI Bill® is a registered trademark of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). More information about education benefits offered by VA is available at the official U.S. government Web site at www.benefits.va.gov/gibill.

Veterans Benefits for CDL and HVACR Training

At NETTTS, we appreciate veterans and are proud to assist military service members with CDL or HVACR training programs that can help with a transition back to civilian life. NETTTS partakes in both active-duty and veteran assistance programs that can help provide career training to veterans and their spouses. Several educational and tuition options are available for active service members, reservists, veterans, dependents, and spouses, depending on the VA Educational Benefit Eligibility. These options include:

Post 9/11 GI Bill®

This bill, also known as Chapter 33, helps veterans who have served on active duty after September 10, 2001, pay for school or job training. There are certain length requirements to be eligible, so it’s important to make sure you fit them. This bill can also benefit a dependent child using benefits that are transferred by a qualifying Veteran or service member.

Chapter 30—Montgomery GI Bill (MGIB)

The Montgomery GI Bill® Active Duty (MGIB-AD) may apply to you if you’ve served at least two years on active duty. You must have been honorably discharged and meet the requirements of one of several categories. If you do, these benefits can help you pay for a NETTTS training program.

Chapter 31—Veteran Readiness and Employment (VR&E)

Veteran Readiness and Employment (formerly called Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment) is an option for people with a service-connected disability that limits their ability to work. It helps them discover different employment opportunities and explore educational or training needs. Sometimes family members may also qualify for certain benefits under this act.

Chapter 35—Survivors and Dependents Educational Assistance Program (DEA)

The Survivors’ and Dependents’ Education Assistance (DEA) is a program for survivors or dependents of veterans, not veterans themselves. If you’re a dependent (child) or surviving spouse of a Veteran who has died, is captured or missing, or has a service-connected disability, you may be eligible for these benefits.

Chapter 1606—Selected Reserve (MGIB-SR)

The Montgomery GI Bill® Selected Reserve program is an option for members of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard Reserve, Army National Guard, or Air National Guard. It offers qualifying members up to 36 months of education and training benefits.

Chapter 1607—Reserve Educational Assistance Program (REAP)

The Reserve Educational Assistance Program also provides up to 36 months of education benefits to members who are deemed eligible by the Department of Defense (DoD) or Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Members must be part of the Selected Reserves, Individual Ready Reserve (IRR), or National Guard, and have been called or ordered to active service in response to a war or national emergency, as declared by the President or Congress.

Department of Defense (DoD) Tuition Assistance (TA) Program

The DoD Tuition Assistance program is for qualified service members who want to complete voluntary off-duty education programs to support their professional or personal self-development goals. Financial assistance is only available for courses that are part of an approved academic degree or certificate program.
