To become a licensed commercial truck driver, students must take and pass the commercial driver’s license (CDL) exam to earn their CDL. One way to prepare for the CDL exam is to enroll in CDL career training from an FMCSA-registered training provider. Students can earn different CDLs, which allow them to drive specialized vehicles. NETTTS provides training for two CDL types:
- CDL Class-A Training: This CDL license enables truck drivers to operate commercial vehicles with a gross combination weight of 26,001 pounds or more or a towed unit with a gross vehicle weight of more than 10,000 pounds.
- CDL Class-B Training: This CDL license allows truck drivers to work with commercial vehicles with a gross vehicle weight of 26,001 pounds or more or tow vehicles with less than 10,000 pounds of gross vehicle weight.
During their CDL exam, students must know how to drive commercial vehicles on both local roads and highways. While training at our campus, students gain hands-on experience driving these road types, as well as different routes and traffic patterns.
They can also practice their driving skills with our fleet of tractor-trailer combinations and heavy straight trucks, each with five- to 10-speed transmissions. We have five acres of paved space right next to our campus, which students use to learn maneuvering and backing. Students will also gain experience on real roads and highways throughout Connecticut, like I-95, Route 8, Route 25, and I-91.
Our CDL training programs include both classroom and behind-the-wheel training. All our truck driving school campuses have a training staff of around 40 instructors, meaning students can learn from a variety of experienced CDL instructors. We also have a resource room where students can research, study, take practice tests, and use our truck driving simulator.

NETTTS in Bridgeport, CT has been recognized by Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges (ACCSC) as a 2022 ACCSC School of Distinction and aims to prepare students to become commercial truck drivers. Located on the fourth floor of the former Singer Sewing Machine building, our Bridgeport campus extends 4,000 square feet, including four classrooms and administrative offices like Admissions, Career Services Support, Student Services, Student Loan Management, and our Financial Aid office. We also have two training yards for students earning different CDLs. For example, we have a truck driving training yard reserved for Class A licenses and a separate truck driving training yard for Class B licenses.
Students can commute to our campus by bus, train, or ferry, and via highways like I-95, Route 8, or Route 1.

We provide many resources to students both during their time at NETTTS and after. Students can pick from morning, afternoon, evening, or weekend courses to fit their education into their lifestyles.
