Wondering How to Start a Trucking Business?

If you’ve dreamed of owning your own trucking business, the first step might be to train for a CDL license. This can help provide the foundation and experience to succeed as a trucking business owner, whether you stay on the road or run things from an office headquarters.

New England Tractor Trailer Training School (NETTTS) offers Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) training at four campuses in Somers, CT, Bridgeport, CT, North Andover/Haverhill, MA and Pawtucket, RI. Learn the ins and outs of truck driving through classroom instruction and on-road training with classes available:

  • Weekends

We have multiple schedule options to help you complete your CDL training.

What Programs Does NETTTS Offer?

Once you have decided on training for your CDL, you’ll want to choose a driving school that meets FMCSA requirements for Entry Level Driver Training (ELDT). NETTTS is an approved training provider by the FMCSA for Entry Level Driver Training for both the CDL Class-A program and a CDL Class-B program.

No matter which program you choose, NETTTS can help teach the basics, with classes covering:

  • CDL learner’s permit preparation
  • Training on federal, state, and local regulations
  • National Safety Council Defensive Driving Certification
  • Pre-trip Inspection procedures
  • Shifting practice on driving simulators
  • Hands-on, behind-the-wheel driving training with professional and knowledgeable instructors
  • Road training and CDL road test sponsorship

At NETTTS, we help our students learn the skills to become comfortable behind the wheel and operating a Commercial Motor Vehicle by themselves.

COMMERCIAL DRIVER’S LICENSE PROGRAM – CDL Class-A

A CDL A is the license that is used to drive tractor-trailers, the typical 18-wheeled vehicles that haul cargo locally and around the country. CDL Class-A training includes 300 hours of classroom training, followed by a minimum of another 240 hours of hands-on Field and Road training, where students will learn:

  • Pre-trip inspection procedures
  • Coupling and uncoupling
  • Brake bleed down (Air brakes) procedures and safety
  • Shifting drills

Our classes also cover backing maneuvers to help master handling big rigs, like:

  • Straight back
  • Blind side parallel park
  • Sight side parallel park
  • Alley dock parking
  • Offset backing
  • Road time and Registry mock test practice

HEAVY STRAIGHT TRUCK TRAINING PROGRAM – CDL Class-B

A CDL B is a license needed for those wanting to drive straight trucks. The program at NETTTS includes Commercial Heavy Straight Truck Training (CDLB). Throughout the course, students will receive training in the classroom to learn about general knowledge and air brake systems in preparation for their CDL Class B permit. Students become familiar with Pre-Trip inspection procedures, basic maneuvering, trip reports, and the requirements for the CDL-B road test.

Students interested in driving the following vehicles should look into CDL Class-B training:

  • Box trucks
  • Straight trucks
  • Propane trucks
  • Sanitation trucks
  • Delivery vehicles

Students who have a Class A CDL can drive a Class B truck, but students who have a Class B CDL can only operate Class B vehicles.

Is CDL Training Affordable?

Aren’t sure if you can afford a truck driving school? NETTTS has options to help you reach your goals.
