Meet the Staff at our CT Trucking School

If you’ve attended our trucking school in Bridgeport, CT in the past few years there’s a pretty good chance you’ve spoken with Damek. He works in the Financial Aid Department at our CDL training school and helps students figure out their different options for paying for school..

    Q&A with Damek

What do you do as the Financial Aid Director?
“The Financial Aid Director is in charge of making sure that every student who goes through Admissions is packaged and financially ready for school. Basically so you don’t start school wondering how you are going to pay this gap that’s not covered through Financial Aid.

What do you like most about your job?
    “Helping the students.”

What is it that you do to help students become successful at the end of the day?
“Our role is making it so they don’t worry about the money. We want to make sure that when they come to school their biggest concern is getting that Class A Commercial Driver’s License. So we tell them, even with the weekly payments, talk with us. We don’t want you missing school over a $10 a week payment. We want you to reach your goals.”

What’s the best advice anyone has ever given you?
“Never take anything for granted and work harder than the person beside you. Because nothing is promised. Keep working and keep learning. Knowledge is power.”

Any words of wisdom for someone thinking about coming to school at NETTTS?
“Don’t procrastinate or let the little things get in the way. The problems at home, or the car trouble, or something like that because there will always be some type of obstacle that can get in the way. Don’t let it get in your way.

The thing about the trucking industry is that it can be a second chance industry for some. We have a lot of students who made some bad decisions when they were younger. I believe that those dumb decisions shouldn’t follow them for the rest of their life. I believe everyone deserves a second chance.”
