Trailer orders strong in February

Truck trailer orders were strong in February, that’s according to a monthly report.

“The strong trailer order season continues, as the impact of large fleet commitments was evident in February,” reported TruckingInfo.com. “New order volumes of 32,143 trailers netted to 29,947 units after cancellations, according to ACT Research.”

“Net orders were up 17 percent sequentially and up 68 percent from the same month last year,” said Frank Maly, Director – CV Transportation Analysis and Research at ACT.

Trucking Info also reported that the industry orderboard for new truck trailers is now at the highest level since August, 2006. “While dry vans were the driving force in the 11 percent m/m total industry gain, strength was widespread. Seven of ten trailer categories were up month-over-month. February production surged compared to a weather-impacted January.”

ACT publishes new and used commercial vehicle industry data, market analysis and forecasting services for the North American market, as well as the U.S. tractor-trailer market and the China CV market.

Strong trailer orders have been the trend in the commercial truck sector and 2013 finished as a year of order growth following positive orders in December.

“For 2013, a total of 231,700 orders were booked,” TruckingInfo.com reported in January. “This was the third consecutive year of annual orders greater than 230,000. This information was included in the most recent State of the Industry: U.S. Trailers published by ACT Research Co.”

“All trailer categories had single digit cancellation rates, which is a positive for the industry,” said Frank Maly, director – CV Transportation Analysis and Research at ACT. “In addition to indicating that existing fleet commitments are solid, low cancellations also simplify material flow and order planning by the original equipment manufacturers,” he added.
