Fuel efficiency a goal for trucking industry
Trucking officials at the Commercial Vehicle Outlook Conference recently remarked on the progress the industry has made in the way of fuel efficiency.
During a panel discussion called “The Future of Fuel Economy: 2017 and Beyond,” Max Fuller, chairman and CEO of U.S. Xpress, said his company decided two years that natural gas was worth embracing as a truck carriers, but embracing the new fuel source was something he wanted to take slow.
“So we decided to go slow,” he said, noting that if the cost ever dropped for engine conversions his company would move faster. “Let’s go slow and see how the technology evolves and let some other manufacturers get into the industry.
Other trucker carrier owners on the panel said natural gas was growing in popularity as rising fuel costs challenged the trucking industry, which appears to be growing at a steady rate every year.
